Moving a Pinball Machine Through Stairs and Doorways
A route-first moving plan for pinball machines, with emphasis on preparation, backbox safety and avoiding cabinet damage.

Walk the route empty-handed first
Measure the narrowest door, stair width, landing depth and ceiling clearance. Identify where the cabinet will rotate and whether doors or railings can be removed safely.
A route that looks generous when empty can become impossible once the cabinet is tilted on a dolly.
Prepare the machine
Remove loose balls and accessories, secure the playfield and follow the game's procedure for folding or removing the backbox. Protect the head so cables are not pinched at hinges.
Bag and label leg bolts, balls and removable pieces rather than dropping everything into the coin box.
Protect the cabinet
Use blankets or protective wrap without trapping abrasive dirt against the artwork. Keep straps away from fragile trim, buttons and backbox glass.
Do not lift by the lockdown bar, shooter assembly or backbox.
Use enough people and the right equipment
An appliance dolly, stair-climbing equipment or professional arcade mover can be cheaper than repairing a dropped cabinet or an injured mover.
Assign one person to communicate and stop the move whenever visibility or footing changes.
Reassemble methodically
After the machine reaches the room, install legs and backbox hardware carefully, verify connectors, level the cabinet and inspect for anything that shifted before powering on.
